Hello Greatness,

I recently had a conversation with one of my friends who is a pre-school teacher. In the course of the conversation, I asked why she was so passionate about early childhood education, and she simply responded- If the foundation be destroyed, what can the righteous do? (Psalm 11:3). I was awed by her response. I know I love kids, but I think I’m more drawn towards the young adults who would respond to me when I ask questions. She went on and on about why she thought that was the perfect fit for her since she can catch them young and form their minds so early. It really was an eye-opening experience for me, especially since we had the conversation on Mother’s Day. Made me understand how important it is for parents to actually start molding their children’s minds at a very tender age. I might not have a kid of mine just yet, but just like my niece called me “an upcoming mother,” I know how important it is for me to start being interested in how I want to train my child.

It’s never too early to start teaching kids about the laws to living a successful life and pairing those laws with an intimate relationship with God. Truth is, I have seen so many people who know nothing about God that do well more than those who know God. See, it’s not enough to know God, you also have to apply the insights He’s giving to you to become successful. Believing that you can actually make it without God is the biggest mistake you would ever make. Have you forgotten that it is only God that has ever promised all-round rest? He even said it’s only His blessing that makes one rich, without adding sorrow to it. What about the fact that He said it is He who has given you the power to get wealth? I could go on and on about God’s promise when it comes to making it in life.

Yes, there are principles to life, and if anyone follows them, they would see the results. That’s why you see it working for some people. These people you are looking at might be very hardworking- see anyone who is diligent in his work, he would stand before kings and not before mere men. Some don’t forget to help those who are in need- one gives freely yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want (Proverbs 11:24). It might be true that things are working for them, but it doesn’t mean they have everything God has to offer. Don’t make the mistake of wishing for their life, you can learn what principles they have put in place and apply them.

It’s important to have a moral compass in life. Teach your kids what’s right so that it’s glaringly obvious to them, the things that should be avoided. Fact is, the devil will not be happy about your choice to teach your kids the right things, so he will try different ways to get their attention. This brings me back to that foundation that my friend talks about. Once the foundation is solid, it will be difficult for storms to break the house. The foundation of a house is usually the first thing that is built. It is also the part of building that takes the longest, because the rest of the building comes to rest of it. Now, if that foundation is shaky, what do you really expect to happen to that building?

You don’t even have to wait till the child is born before you start shaping the child’s mind. You can start during pregnancy. This is not just for the mothers though. The child belongs to both parents so they have to both put an effort into declarations about who their child will become. I, for one, will make it my mission to speak positive words to my children so that they are indeed the light of the world, and a city set upon a hill that cannot be hid (Matthew 5:14).

I guess my mind likes to think really deep. This whole post was inspired by a five-minute conversation I had with my beautiful friend. I have been deeply inspired by that lady, and I thought to share with all of you. Hopefully, someone else will be just as excited as I am and start praying for their kids.
