Beautiful Rest…….

Hello Greatness,

The way God works sometimes ehn. So, I was supposed to put up this post last night, but then I slept off(this is interesting considering the topic I’m treating today). But now I know that God had a reason for me not putting up this post because He had something more for me to understand. You know there are times when you assume that you’ve got a perfect understanding of something until a new revelation humbles you. That was how I felt this morning during my Bible Study. I think you will understand this a little better when you read the post.

There’s nothing as relaxing on a Sunday night, after eating Sunday rice, and chilling with family

I recently watched a movie with my mom. The movie is basically about a god that sleeps all year round and only wakes up one day in a year. If you don’t wait till it’s that time of the year for the god to wake up and forcefully wake the god, there will be absolute chaos. This doesn’t stop the worshipers from absolutely worshiping this god and making sacrifices. I mean, how do you appease a god that is asleep? I was in awe of this- the whole time, I kept thinking about my God. The Bible records that the keeper of Israel neither sleeps nor slumbers (Psalm 124:1). If the people who have a god who never protects them and is always sleeping can worship that god with all of their hearts, who am I not to worship God?

God constantly holds our hands!!!!

How often have I taken advantage of my Father’s protection? There are some things we seriously take advantage of- you know, familiarity is a very scary concept. We become so familiar with God that we are no longer astonished by His mighty deeds. When was the last time you truly worshiped at God’s feet- I mean apart from your regular prayer time. We are supposed to count our blessings and name them one by one (1 Thessalonians 5:15). It’s already August, and yet instead of thanking God for daily loading us with benefits (Psalm 68:19), some of us are busy thinking of the things we should have achieved this year that we really haven’t.

When you sleep beautifully……

Have you even considered this issue of sleep? For a God who never sleeps a wink, He really is interested in me sleeping beautifully. Let me show you some of the things He has said about you and sleep:

When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. Proverbs 3:24
It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so He giveth his beloved sleep Psalm 127:2
And the LORD gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand Joshua 21:44
But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side, and there is no adversary or disaster 1 Kings 5:4(NIV)
All in Judah were happy about this covenant, for they had entered into it with all their heart. They earnestly sought after God, and they found him. And the LORD gave them rest from their enemies on every side (2 Chronicles 15:15 NLT)

That might not be an exhaustive list of what God promises about rest and sleep, but I hope that by now you understand what I mean by God being interested in our everyday life.

Then this morning I read Psalm 44, and it got me thinking about this post. David, in one of his cries (you know he is a warrior, all of his reign as a king was filled with wars), complained about God deserting him. At first when I read this, I was already saying in my heart that it must be because he did something to make him feel like God was far away. Then I came upon verse 17 to 20 and I was completely confused. As if that was not enough, David now lost me in verse 23. I don’t know if this ever happens to you, but have you ever felt the need to defend God when you hear someone say something. I became really defensive during my prayer time. All by myself, I was having a conversation. I wondered the audacity David had to even tell God to wake up. I mean, it’s even one of your psalms that talks about how God never sleeps. When I calmed down, I realized he didn’t mean it in the literal way that I thought. Then the Holy Spirit reminded me about those moments when I’ve had moments like that in my heart. Times when I was wondering if God was there- by thinking that, wasn’t I myself wondering if God was Omnipresent? Before you judge me, please remember that I had my judgemental moment with David too until the Holy Spirit humbled me.

Thanks for reading!

With exceeding love,

Mz_Ola.

P.S: I would love you to read Psalm 44 and share your thoughts with me as well. I’m open to some other interpretations as led by the Holy Spirit.

Thoughtful…… Many never consider the fact that there is no hope for the dead, I still consider it mystery for sleeping and waking with perfect timing. All thanks to God.
